Shows for the Rest of May in Montreal

In Canada, Celebrate Your Scene, Gigs, Montréal, Worldwide on May 20, 2010 at 2:03 pm

So we’ve just made some updates to the Montreal Shows & Events page, and there is reason to be excited. Below are the best upcoming shows for the rest of May.

MAY 20 – FUCK BUTTONSHOUNDS OF HATE @ Il Motore (179 Jean-Talon Ouest) | $15adv./$17door

Fuck Buttons come highly recommended. Arnold saw them and had nothing but great things to say about their show. Hounds of Hate sound pretty solid too and Il Motore’s a great place to see a show, especially this kind of music.

MAY 21 – BRAIDSHOLLY MIRANDA @ Le Savoy (59 St Catherine Est/inside Metropolis) | $?

Braids are one of the best Montreal-based bands out there and if you’re going to see any show in May, make it this one. They’re about to release their debut LP ‘Native Speaker’ and it promises to be excellent. I saw them late last year and I still can’t get over it. Their live show is just incredible.

MAY 21 – ELUVIUMJULIANNA BARWICKEARLY TRANSCEDENTALS @ Casa Del Popolo (4873 St Laurent) | $10adv./$12door (“Advance tickets at Phonopolis, Atom Heart, Oblique and Cheap Thrills. This will sell out, advanced tickets strongly recommended.”) | The Grand Theft Ottoman Empire Two Year Anniversary Show

It’s a shame this show is on the same day as Braids because Eluvium makes very beautiful music. I’d recommend this show strongly if it was any other night, but if Braids or Holly Miranda aren’t your thing, then you’re in a great night of music regardless.

MAY 26 – ARRINGTON DE DIONYSO [MALAIKAT DAT SINGA] (member of OLD TIME RELIJUN) / POP WINDSSEAN NICHOLAS SAVAGE @ Il Motore (179 Jean-Talon Ouest) | $10adv./$10door

You gotta see this show. The new Pop Winds, ‘The Turquoise’ released on Arbutus, is fantastic. Steve wrote about it here. The new Sean Nicholas Savage is also very very good (and the long-delayed review of his album will eventually surface). Big night for Montreal right here, make it happen.

MAY 27 – MONOTHE TWILIGHT SAD @ La Sala Rossa (4848 St Laurent) | $18adv./$18door

MONO are one of the best, if not THE best post-rock band out there. Their shows are known for their intensity and I would strongly suggest not missing them because their North American touring is often years apart. The Twilight Sad are very solid too, and my impression is that their live shows are very good.

  1. […] they almost seem like established grandparents to some of the city’s newer acts. In fact, they are the most tagged band on this very blog. It therefore surprises some to learn that they have not […]
