ARCHERS have an awesome 7″ out

In Album Reviews, Celebrate Your Scene, Worldwide on August 14, 2010 at 3:46 pm

Portland, Oregon’s ARCHERS have four awesome songs out on a self-titled 7″ (only 200 made copies so get one real soon if you want one, this one’s gotta sell out). I discovered these guys thanks to Jheri Evans (aka Get Off The Coast) – this was also posted on the newly established and not-so-surprisingly consistent Altered Zones. They caught my ear while going through the mp3s on the Altered Zones page looking for jams, and after some more mellow and electro/dance songs, ‘Brussels Truffles’ came blasting through my computer’s speakers and I was immediately into it. It’s got a little Jay Reatard kick to it. Pretty fast. Pretty loud. Pretty melodies? Yeah, definitely. Well, great melodies. Maybe ‘pretty”s not the most appropriate word for this kind of music. It’s crowd-surfing-at-Friendship-Cove kinda music.

So after the attention grabbing opener finishes, it’s followed by a just-as-good, if not better song called ‘Door To All Marvels’. It’s got some of the best singing on the whole release. Real strong stuff there. Every part of the song is great, though. I get a little bit of a Kinks vibe and even a little Libertines feel too. This is then followed by a song called ‘Radical Opinion’ which may be my favorite song on the 7″. The guitar line is great and the singing and lyrics are top-notch. The drums keep things moving real nice and it’s got a great feel overall. The fourth and final song, ‘Jackson’ is another great song from one of the best debut 7″s I’ve heard this year. It’s certainly a little punk, but most importantly it’s a really fun release, so I strongly recommend that you pick up their 7″ for only $5 (or name your own price for just the mp3s) from them here, where you also give all four songs a listen and decide for yourself how awesome this band is.

They’ve got four shows coming up, all in the Portland area, so if that’s your area too you should definitely go and see them. Those four dates below:

Mon 8/23 – ARCHERS / PIGEONS / LEATHER TOM AND THE DIRTY DUDES @ Valentines (Portland, Oregon)

Wed 9/1 – ARCHERS / DUCK LITTLE BROTHER DUCK @ Rotture (Portland, Oregon)

Fri 9/17 – ARCHERS / AND AND AND @ Rack N Cue (Salem, Oregon)

Tues 10/26 – ARCHERS / AND AND AND / THE WOOLEN MEN @ Lolas Room (Portland, Oregon)

So ARCHERS, this is an open invitation to come play Montreal whenever you want. Hopefully, we’ll see you soon.

Enjoy.
