Since I caught their show during Pop Montréal I haven’t stopped listening to London based jazz band Portico Quartet. Their show (a co-presentation with Montréal Jazz fest) was stunning, and the first track, ‘Clipper’, from their 2009 album ‘Isla’ was one of the standouts on the night. The second track is called ‘Knee Deep in the North Sea’ and is the title track from their Mercury Prize nominated debut album.
(p. s.That soft metallic sound you can hear on all of their tracks is the Hang, one of the few patented instruments in the world.)
A further track for good luck. ‘Life Mask’ from ‘Isla. (give this track till 1.40 to get going, though listening to it all brings out the complete ambiance.)
